Rodrigo Sastre
Rodrigo Sastre lives in Mexico City. His work deals with comic books, science fiction and art history references.
As a kid, he was caught by the world of American comics. He got interested in Art, as a way to develop his drawing skills. Meanwhile collecting comics, he assumed Art as his profession and looked for a way to keep both interests.
His work is a research and an expression of his desire to understand and analyze the passion of collectors, both art and comic, the motivations involved to search master works, the history surrounding the construction of all the world's collections and the way these
can be known, shared, consumed, appropriated and transformed by the people.
His work often presents different formats, from drawings, to sculpture, through installation, artist's book and video. Some examples are the urban installations "Usted esta aqui" and "Aeródromo" the site specific piece "De Tomaso Pantera" in Los Cabos, BC and exhibitions like "1990", "Birome" (Luis Adelantado gallery) and "Urban Calligraphies" (Museum of Mexico City).
He published the book "Sentóse a decidir" in collaboration with Edgardo Ganado Kim, in which he builds a bridge between André Malraux's oeuvre and the history of comics.
