Daniel Monroy Cuevas

Originally from Guadalajara (born in 1980), Daniel Monroy Cuevas studied Audiovisual Arts in the same city and continued his film training at the Vancouver Film School in Canada. Between 2011 and 2013, he participated in the SOMA program in Mexico City.

His most notable solo exhibitions include “BETASOM” (Casa de Francia, Mexico City, 2019), “How I Learned to Steal (A Chapter on My Drawing Lessons)” (Arredondo/Arozarena Gallery, Mexico City, 2019), and “We Know What Fire Is Like” (ESPAC, Mexico City, 2018). He has been awarded the FONCA Young Creators Grant (2005), the Bancomer/Carrillo Gil Contemporary Art Grant (2014–2016), and was a finalist for the LOOP Discovery Award in Barcelona (2015). He has also completed artist residencies in Italy, the United States, France, and South Korea, and his work is part of collections such as those of the Amparo Museum, the Jumex Foundation, the Lemaître collection, and the Sorigué Foundation.

His artistic practice is characterized by treating the camera as a character, questioning the physicality of the image, and turning cinematography into an object, exploring the territories between documentary and fiction.
