Isauro Huizar
Isauro Huizar (b. in Sinaloa, Mexico in 1985) currently lives and works in Mexico City. In his artistic practice he explores different media and performs site specific works where he reorders and recontextualizes what already exists. He studied Architecture at the University of Monterrey and was selected in the SOMA Educational Program (2014-2015), where his main tutors involved are some of the most important artists of the 90’s generation in Mexico (Luis Felipe Ortega, Minerva Cuevas, Eduardo Abaroa) who pushed the limits of his work in a critical and constructive way.
He has presented his work abroad at Human Resources and the University of California, Moore College of Art in Philadelphia, SOIL Gallery in Seattle, David B. Smith Gallery in Denver, the Fondazione Giorgio Cini and Spazio Ridotto in Italy as part of the Venice Biennale and recently Chalton Gallery in London. In Mexico Isauro has shown at FIFI Projects, Casa Maauad, Bikini Wax EPS, Pantalla Blanca, Casa Wabi, Studio Block M74,
Salon ACME and Archivo DA where he shared space with longer career artists as Pedro Reyes and Tercerunquinto. In 2018 he presented his first solo exhibition in Mexico City
at the Enrique Guerrero Gallery and participated in Zona Maco 2019 with the same space. He recently participated in the group exhibition Approaching Abstraction at Blain
Souhtern London curated by Bosco Sodi and Alberto Ríos de la Rosa. Isauro has also participated in Residencies such as the XII FEMSA Biennial (Monterrey), Casa Wabi (Oaxaca), Dedazo (Chiapas), Bien Urbain (Besançon), GuestHaus (Los
Angeles) and Casa Nano (Tokyo). In 2018 he was selected for the project "On water scarcity" organized by SOMA and the California Institute of the Arts. His practice goes
beyond artistic production and has carried out Museography projects for the Roberto Garza Sada Center, Biquini Wax EPS, Archivo DA and Human Resources (Los Angeles).
He has also been a teacher in various institutions (Centro Cultural Tijuana, Casa Wabi, Siqueiros Public Art Room and Guest Haus) giving the workshop “The Surface, The Color
and The Shape" focused on introducing children to shapes and colors. Since 2016 he has assisted artist Damián Ortega in special projects.
He has participated in different auctions in support for Mexico Vivo Foundation, Sinaloa Art Museum and SOMA Educational Program. His work can be found in private
collections by Aldo Chaparro, Moisés Cosío, Fernando Romero and Luciano Benetton. He is currently co-editor of AAF Magazine (revista-aaf.net), a printed and independent
publication on spatial issues interested in the dissemination of works of Architecture, Art and Photography of Quality. He also directs the online project Muchas Cosas
(muchascosas.org) that tries to spread the thought and the ideas of the artists related to its vision and production. As well he also sustain Abstract Painting Mexico
(@abstractpaintingmx) a personal exploration to promote Mexican abstract painting.
