Clara de Tezanos
Clara de Tezanos is a Guatemalan artist living and creating in Antigua. Her work vibrates at the intersection of light, ritual, and reverence, drawing from both the tangible and the metaphysical.
Trained in photography at The New School Parsons Paris and Speos, her early career was shaped by lens-based practices. But Clara has always been more interested in portals than frames. From 2009 to 2018, she co-founded and directed La Fototeca, Guatemala’s Center for Contemporary Photography, and the GuatePhoto Festival—establishing vital platforms for visual culture, education, and experimentation in Central America.
In 2018, her books Piedra-Padre, Universo and Por Maniobras de un Terceto received international recognition, shortlisted by Paris Photo–Aperture, PhotoEspaña, and Rencontres d’Arles, among others. Her installations and exhibitions—such as La Fuente es el Sol (Galería Rebelde, 2022), Faites un Voeu (Galerie La La Lande, 2024), and Americanas (Casa Wabi, 2024)—invite viewers to engage not only with objects, but with frequencies.
Her most recent work, El Habitáculo, is a solar-powered installation and sacred shelter—a prismatic vessel vibrating in harmony with nature. Designed as a living antenna, it offers a portal to presence, stillness, and universal awe.
Through every medium she touches, Clara invites us to ask quieter questions, to look toward the sky with grounded feet, and to remember that light has memory—and it’s speaking to us.
